About this Site

I created this site to celebrate shoegazing music and to share my love of it.

I grew up in the classic rock era and cut my teeth on Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Rush, Kiss, Aerosmith and other hard rock bands of that period.  Shoegazing music took the key element from that tradition—distorted guitars—and multiplied it, while making a left-turn into an ethereal alternate universe of echoing spaces and drifting vocals more suited to the introspective, MDMA-enhanced '90s than the beer-weed-and-speed fueled '70s.

The first time I heard  a shoegaze song (The Verve's Slide Away) I fell in love.  To my ears, this sounded like hard rock for a new era.

While the style soon fell out of fashion, largely replaced by Grunge in America and Britpop in the UK, it remains enormously influential on later bands and enormously enjoyed by noise aficionados everywhere.

I invite you to sample my 10 Favorite Shoegaze Songs of All Time.

How To Listen

For the true experience:

1. Listen on good speakers (please, for the love of god, no laptop speakers)

2. Feel free to imbibe anything that heightens your appreciation of music.

3. Turn it up loud.  And then a bit more.
